One of the things I love most about the D.C. restaurant scene is the variety of mocktails available at many of the city’s best restaurants. Whether you’re pregnant, sober, participating in Whole30, or trying to avoid a hangover on a weeknight, skipping the alcohol doesn’t mean you have to skimp on a delicious drink.
I really enjoy fresh and fruity cocktails, so I crafted up two recipes that use many of the same ingredients (sparkling water, rosemary, rosemary syrup) to cut back on waste but that pack in a refreshing taste.
Blueberry + Rosemary Spritzer
While these recipes are not Whole30 approved, all you have to do is remove the rosemary simple syrup and any other sugar. I also use my Breville juicer and juice my own grapefruits at home to avoid any added sugar (and it just tastes so much better).
I used this recipe by Kitchn to make my own rosemary simple syrup. It was incredibly easy and helped make sure no rosemary went to waste.
Spicy Grapefruit + Rosemary MocktailĀ
When making the Spicy Grapefruit + Rosemary Mocktail, I had a specific friend in mind: my Texas girl, Kelsey, who is expecting a baby in the spring! If you aren’t a spicy person, just skip the chili powder and cayenne, turning this mocktail back into a tart and tasty spritzer.
