Bowls are definitely one of my favorite food trends! It is a great way to eat all the flavors and foods you enjoy, with a little less guilt. While there is no one way to make a bowl, there are a few guidelines I like to follow.
Use lots of color! With any meal I try to make as much color as possible on my plate. The sweet potato and roasted peppers really give a pop of vibrant color, while the green lettuce and the cucumber stand out by contrast to the hummus and meatballs. The bright yellow of the Turmeric Honey Mustard really makes the dish inviting!
Try for as many different textures as you can. Tender meatballs and roasted veggies, mixed with the crunchy cucumber and lettuce, all combined with the creamy hummus and the soft roasted sweet potatoes. I added toasted pita for extra texture this time!
And finally combine similar flavors profiles to make a cohesive dish. With this bowl I chose mediterranean cuisine. The fresh cool cucumber and bright parsley balances the earthiness of the sweet potato, hummus, and dressing. I also threw in some Heart of Palm for a tangy acidic flavor, marinated artichokes would have been a great substitute as well.
Use these guidelines and make your bowl what YOU want it to be!
