My grandmother bought me a cookie press this year (Thanks Nana!), and I absolutely love it. I’ve been looking for ways to use the press outside of the holiday season, when most home cooks whip theirs out for christmas tree and wreath-shaped cookies. Cheese straws are an obvious choice, but I’ll share more on that later. Spritz cookies are a classic use for the cookie press. The cookies are so light and crunchy. And the cookie press makes it so easy to get perfectly uniform cookies…which is ideal for sandwiching!
If you love nutella like I do, then you will definitely be into this spritz sandwich cookie. The dough is a snap to mix together, and you can add the extract of your choice. I chose to use only almond extract, but you can also use vanilla as the recipe calls for. I’d love to see someone try a lemon extract with a berry or cream cheese filling of some sort. YUM.
Here is the basic butter spritz cookie recipe from Food Network. After the cookies have baked and cooled, simply spread the nutella between two cookies and eat up!
