I can’t seem to go to the supermarket and leave without apples. I love apples, and eat them almost daily. While I do crave applesauce every once in a while, I’ve never been a huge fan of it. Until now.
This recipe for chunky homemade applesauce from Once Upon a Chef caught my eye, and boy, am I glad it did. Peeling and chopping the apples is the hardest part. Once you’ve got them all chopped, you simply add the ingredients to a baking dish and pop in the oven.
This applesauce was delicious warm, just after mashing it all up, and was even better cold. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! I can’t wait to make it again, and to try it out with various varieties of apples to see how the taste changes.
I followed this recipe almost to the letter, except that I didn’t want to add 1/4 cup of brown sugar. I opted for 2 tablespoons and didn’t miss the extra one bit! I used apples picked straight off the tree at my grandmother’s cabin.
